Mutilate Rotation You Tube Video Help

Well I didn't live and learn after all. This is a you tube video to help Assassination rogues get to grips with their rotation ready for raiding. The guide focuses on the rupture rotation for Mutilate rogues and is suitable for patch 4.0.1, patch 4.0.3 and cataclysm. Additional notes at the end cover Backstab and energy capping briefly.

Please forgive me messy UI, so many thing in my UI i have to fix! I also noticed a couple of people decided to try out the dummy too while I was there but I wasn't in the mood for redoing the video in the hope no one would bother me this time so I have left it in, however this does mean things get a bit loud mid-way through the video so my apologies for this.

This is also using my combat rogue so her gear is completely reforging for combat, she has her awkward Lungbreaker in her main hand which still has the wrong enchant on it and a crappy ilevel 200 blue dagger in her offhand with no enchant at all on it for the purposes of being able to use this build. Glyphs also not accurate and the target dummy is only a Level 80 normal dummy as the wrath raiding dummy has now been replaced with a Cataclysm raiding dummy so there roughly no misses on this dummy. So bear in mind that this is not an accurate representation of my or any Mutilate DPS it's just a display of how to work the basic Mutilate rotation.

Oh yes, and sorry my mic is still awful :> Now accepting donations for a new mic! j/k

  4. anon: Hey there thanks for dropping by ^_^ My UI's totally messed up in there, but if you check out over on the fourms UI thread you can see what my UI is basically meant to look like and get a full list of the addons. The only difference is I now use NuGComboBar instead of ComboPoints because the latter broke in the patch.

    doomkin: Thx very much! :) I'm sorry I'm not sure I can fix the volume of noise as on my end it's already deafening :s perhaps your player got turned down or something?

  5. What bar mod are you using in the video?

  6. In your video you lose Slice n Dice after placing Rupture on the target. Now I know this isn't always the case depending on Ruthlessness and sometimes even Relentless Strikes, but don't you think it's a bigger damage loss to lose that Slice n Dice than to just Garrote -> Mutilate -> Slice n Dice -> Mutile 4-5 Combo points -> Rupture? Your thoughts, thanks.

    My rotation at lvl 85 is :
    "Garrote -> SnS -> Mutilate (4-5cp) -> Expose Armor -> Envenom -> Mutilate (4-5cp) -> Rupture)

    I would say that's the best rotation for 85s if you have the Improved Expose Armor talentpoints.

  8. Yes if you took talent points out of other dps points and placed them in expose armor than it probably would be :> generally speaking though its not recommended to do so and you are highly likely to have someone in your raid who already does that job anyway :D

  9. shiv is actually meant to de-enrage bosses, like the yeti boss from the first battle in ToC 10/25 when a doofus actually gets smashed when he runs at the wall and he becomes enraged, or the flying dragon sub-boss in ruby sanctum.
    its the replacement for anesthetic poisons which used to de-enrage, but have since been removed.

  10. I have been opening with this as Mutilate spec:

    Garrote > SnD > Mutilate > Envenom > Mutilate x2 > Rupture

    My reasoning is that with the amount of energy you have to start out with, the first 4 abilities let you get a 5 point maximum duration SnD up a lot faster. If you use Rupture too soon, like in the video, the 1 point SnD has potential to fall off.

    Using envenom this early, in addition to giving you a 20 second SnD duration, also grants increased poison proc rate for a short duration, establishing the 5 point DP stack faster. It also has a chance to proc more energy via Relentless Strikes, making your follow up Mutilate faster as you build toward your 4-5 point rupture.

    What are your thoughts on this? I have found the sequence to be more fluent as an opener, but I am not sure if the dps production is better or worse.
