Combat Rotation You Tube Video Help

I've made a you tube video for all the combat rogues out there aimed at beginner rogues looking to nail the new Cataclysm rotation. The video details the basic combat rupture rotation and assumes you have already obtained the best talent build and glyphs for a combat rogue.

Please forgive my messy UI and my awful voice. :( Also it's really hard to do the rotation and record audio at the same time! If you watch the video in full you'll notice I make a few mistakes in various places as my mind begins to wander...  Maybe I should have considered recording the audio afterwards instead, well live and learn.

Maybe I will try more videos like this to supplement the blog posts at PVE Rogues later on we will see how things go.

I hope someone finds this useful and as with all things practice is the key to success!

P.S I'm going to go die of embarrassment in a ditch somewhere now. *runs*

  2. Yay, I see a Tachikoma in the corner. What's the name of the UI that you use for the combo points? I like the video, wish there was a higher quality download available.

  3. I have a friend who just started playing wow and plays as a rogue too. This video will help him a lot. Thanks!

And also, many thanks for the subtlety rotation blog. Made my life easier :P

  4. minrunr: Hehe yeah tachikoma is my pc name =o go go GITS:SAC!

    thats a nice one im using called NUGComboBar from wowinterface. I used to use another one that was a bit neater, but it broke with the patch so i had to find another one. I like my combo bar big and color co-ordinated generally cos im half blind ;_;

ayaanle: awesome sauce i hope its easy to understand and i dont waffle on or anything. plus nic eone for sub stuffs too, im still learning in that department quite a lot =o

  7. Thank you for this video Garona, I'm a recently dinged rogue and found out that i was reapplying my ruptures too fast. I should give the macros a try.

Just a question, does the macro NOT apply RvS when you already have 5 combo points or should you apply it anyway even if you have 5 combo points?

    ReplyDelete
  8. The macro unfortunately cannot complete an... humm "if then else" path so to speak. they can only do whatever in the sequence you asked it to do. That means if you have 5 CP, you're boned and you need ot do an RVS anyway using that macro.

applying RVS at 5 CP is a dps loss but the macros help substantially when you are just beginning and its better than missing out on RVS's completely.

I would suggest popping another plain Evis and Rupture on your bar if u like for when those problems occur if you are looking to develop your rotation further. When you are feeling really flash and comfy you can bin the macros and use RVS on a seperate button :D The macros are just a nice idea for people new to the rotation or who are struggling with it as you cant go much wrong but its not optimal by any means :)

  9. The Macro is a good choice for new rogues
but I dont use many macro's I just went stright into using RVS in my rotation did not take long to work in not that i'm not a flashy rogue just and old one, some times I go on auto and forget to put it in I put that down to old age not the rotaition being hard
    BF a Preist Healer :P
what is the world coming too LoL

  10. yeh some people pick these things up quicker than others. the macro is for those that cant :)

  11. Great video, thanks. We don't see many informative vids for rogues, it's much appreciated.

Any chance of a text post of the macros you used?

  12. Lol, I just noticed you said yer boyfriend plays a peiest healer. So does my wife! Wost thing ever!! She healed me through all my mistakes and made me believe that I was sooooo cool :)

(I was in Kara before I realised that the 'Attack' button was toggles attack on and off - I'd happily spend a boss fight spamming it :)

  16. Never guessed to utilize a macros for RvS. And I actually thought your voice is perfectly suited for narrating these things. Do more.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh, and when do you use Fan of Knives? If at all?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Verde: Thanks :D Also, awesome sauce on the guild videos I'l browse through them later ^^ Looking swish.

mrindieday: Haha, i actually hate my voice and doing that was very nerve wrecking! lol I was thinking of doing a muti video rotation next but i have alrdy vendored all my spare gear including my spare dagger so not much I can do about it now unless I get a sub standard dagger from auction ouise just for demonstration purposes. We'll see ;) Maybe something more doable first like gemming help, reforging etc etc. Just supplements to the blog posts we have.

Fan of knivs I use for multiple targets ofc, basically anything +3 mobs and above I will use FoK, now its energy cost has been reduced too it's realy easy to spam FoK without the need for popping AR. If it's two mobs i might pop AR and BF but i havnt yet completely sussed out the best CD combinations for multiple targets just yet. The only thing i know is BF & KS no longer works togetehr (peh) and BF should never be used single target anymore. Don't forget to put the appropriate poison on your thrown weapon for your FoK. :)

  19. Having some probelms with the Evic macro.. But i was wondering if it was possible to have a modifier for one of the finnishers straight away. As to not lose dps on 5cp.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks for the response.

Also wanted to give a quick feedback; since I've started using your rotation (Which was literally last night), I've started leading DPS charts in random LK Heroics. I've only got 4.6K gs, and am usually surrounded by tier-geared players. So it definitely seems to best utilize a Combat rogues abilities.

  21. Bilge: not sure what you mean there but im afraid its not possible to avoid loosing a small amount of dps when 5cp are generated b4 the use of RvS. This an be remedied thoughif you can comfortably use RvS on it's own without macros and can take a bit of practice for many people.

  22. Mr Indie Day:

That's great to hear :) I would reccommend for heroics possibly dropping rupture from your rotation on the trash at least and keeping it up on bosses (provided the bosses last long enough that is). It sounds like you're settling into things nicely either way :D

  23. Good job as always Garona. I love how female humans swing their weapons. Looks like a prison shanking on infinity loop. ;P

  24. What addon are you using for the SS bar?

    ReplyDelete
  25. SS Bar?

If You mean SnD and rupture timers? If so then that's classtimers. :)

Otherwise if not sorry im not sure what you mean by ss bar :s

    ReplyDelete
  26. nice video!

classtimers was nice, gonna try that aswell!

still going for combat? i switched to assa but feel like combat is funnier.

will they balance assa vs comb you think? so they will be 'equal' in terms of dps.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey Rooster, I have also switched to Mutilate and i am enjoying it immensely!

The Master bonus is exceptional (2.5% extra posion damage per mastery point).

Dps is now "through the roof" as they say.

Gem/enchant and reforge to your hit and expertise caps then reforege every remaining unreforged items.

Change Crit to Haste on items with no provisional haste on them, on the items with haste as part of the original stats reforge the extra crit to mastery and you win the internet!

  28. personally im still combat and waiting out the storm. and yes at level 85 people are already reporting that combat is top of the dps meters instead. combat's feeling much better already and hopefully with 4.0.3a we should see much more normality but at level 85 itll be considerably better still so if you arent enjoying mutilate dont give up on combat just yet blizzard are fixing it :)

  29. thank you for your answers!

today i played some more with my rogue and felt that i missed the combat play style =) maybe it's good to get used to both way in order to be a little more versatile.

we'll see what the future will have to offer =)

    ReplyDelete
  30. My favourite build will always be combat, id miss AR and KS and BF far too much otherwise lol. However, I do also have a Mutilate offspec (currently not useable as i vendored my spare dagger) which when raiding in wrath i used for certain tank and spank fights. it usually came out at the same DPS as combat so didnt make much difference for me but it really helped when in certain fights multiple target abilities were more of a hindrance than a help.

I think It also makes a nice change every once in a while, especially since as rogues its not like we have a healing spec or a tanking spec to use on fun runs for a break. So it's good fun :)

  31. Garona, thanks yes I meant SnD. I'm waiting the storm out, I've tried others. Im combat, and a big part of that is I'm an orc(axe bonus) and I am swinging 2 pretty nice axes. I never rolled or cared about daggers so what I have in the bank is a pretty good step down. besides combat is to much fun :D

Thanks for the vid, esp the macro's!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. glad to see not al the combat rogues out there have jumped ship :D

and yes... personally i love axes anyway so ... maybe its just cos i liek being an axe wieldiong maniac?

... im so making a pverogues t-shirt that says im an axe wielding maniac.... i could wear it when i pick up cata from game =o oh im so sad

    one day...

  34. oh indeed i do, i use two buttons for TotT.

One just sets my focus to whoever i mouse over enabling me to quickly change focus mid battle without clicking anyone...

    /focus [target=mouseover]

then i use another button for my actual TotTing which just casts tott on whatever my focus is at the time. so again removes the need for clicking etc and interrupting my combat...

    #showtooltip
/cast [@focus] Tricks of the Trade

most of the time this means i can just set my focus to the tank at the start and then tott away all day. but in cases where you need to altenrate tricks betwen tanks or tanks and dps etc its very handy.
